Choreagraphor Nicholas Norman collaborated with us to present a dance piece that honours the Black Caribbean experience at the turn of the 20th century, using TURNING POINT as a catalyst. Taking place at Hibiscus Community Centre, which is managed by the Hibiscus Caribbean Elderly Association and specialises in the delivery of culturally sensitive services to the elderly, the workshops culminated in a powerful blend of storytelling, history and movement.
The dancers then participated in Get Into Dance at Sadler’s Wells East, showing off their hard work. Get into Dance shines a spotlight on the power of dance to bring people together, improve wellbeing and celebrate identity. Regular dance classes in community centres across East London provide free opportunities for our local communities to move, express, and connect. This festival is where it all comes together.
This workshop was made possible thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
