Birmingham Heritage Research & Digital Skills

A six week Heritage Research Skills Course delivered by Black Heritage Walks. During the workshops, participants explored the topic of Black presence in Birmingham in the 1920s, and over six weeks participants gathered essential archive primary sources, oral testimonies, census records, media sources and so much more.

Linking the stories of TURNING POINT, a Black heritage comedy melodrama which tells the story of four individuals in 1920s Barbados and Jamaica and is inspired by oral histories about the Black Caribbean experience after the First World War, participants explored the parallels of life in Birmingham during the same era.

Black Heritage Walks Network

Black Heritage Walks Network provide a platform to celebrate Black culture and highlight the historical and modern-day achievements of the Black community in the UK. Heritage trails involve physically walking in the area, which allows for personal observations and offers several nuances to heritage sites. We have chosen heritage trails because it champions Black heritage in the UK all year long – not just Black History Month. https://www.blackheritagewalksnetwork.com
