About Dr. Yvon Guest
Dr Yvon Guest was a consultant during development of our TURNING POINT Black heritage drama. She has created “Colourism on the Couch” in response to our storytelling.

Yvon is of Jamaican and celtic heritage. She worked for several decades in the not for profit sector advocating for some of society’s most marginalised communities. She then trained in Bristol as a psychodynamic counsellor. After gaining her PhD in trauma and resilience in care experienced adults she returned to counselling and built an intersectional practice. Her frustration with the lack of specialised training and educational materials for practitioners working with mixed and multiracial heritage clients has kept her at the forefront of this conversation in the UK since 2019. She creates multimedia resources for understanding and working with identity, racism, and colourism. yvonguest.com
Summary
Colourism on the Couch by psychodynamic counsellor Dr. Yvon Guest explores the psychological impact of skin tone discrimination on people of African and South Asian descent. It highlights how colourism—discrimination based on skin shade—operates within communities and families to create, or deny, privilege.
