Landmark research of east London’s Black history in the 1700’s, is underway…

Aided by early modern Black History specialist and writer Montaz Marche, the 6 Black Co-Producers of the Communities of Liberation project – all Tower Hamlets residents – are now researching evidence of Black men, women and children from 18th century east London.

It’s pioneering stuff. The Co-Producers’ discoveries among the treasure trove of original sources from the 1700s, held at Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives, will inspire pioneering creative imagination of neglected Black lives and experiences in east London 300 years ago.

Sweet Patootee Arts’ Co-Artistic Director, Tony T, is currently freelancing as Research and Engagement lead for the Communities of Liberation project – a part-time role alongside his work for Sweet Patootee Arts.
