A day of sharing Caribbean Folk Songs at Tramshed

Tony Thompson

To colleagues and stakeholders across Black heritage, schools, dementia support, arts & heritage sectors.

It’s my privilege to acclaim our soaring Emancipation Day event in tribute and celebration last Friday 1st August (2025), delivered by Sweet Patootee Arts TURNING POINT arts & heritage programme in London.

Full house audience, community performers and project partners, shared a showpiece feel good arts & heritage feast that lit up Woolwich – and left everyone calling for more!

For those who were there and want to recapture the memory, and so those who missed out can get a taste of the magic, Sweet Patootee Arts team made a video recording of the full show; available soon via our website.

Huge shoutout number one to Project Partners CeCelia Anderson and Colin Anderson of EthnoVox, who, over our preceding 12 weeks of rehearsal workshops, coaxed the beautiful spirits of Caribbean Social Forum members into a truly spectacular debut performance as a new choir. What a testament to the powerhouse, creativity and generosity of the Forum.

Huge shoutout number two to Project Partners Caribbean Social Forum management, trustees, catering team and extensive contacts: Passion meets nous, meets expertise and best practice for members’ wellbeing in everything they do. Thank you for your trust, and choosing to be the focus of our London Caribbean Folk Singing workshops, for Sweet Patootee Arts TURNING POINT programme. 12 weeks have flown by – who knew they’d achieve such heights!

Huge shoutout number three to the team at venue partner Woolwich Tramshed. Excellent facilities and support meets first rate people skills. Friday night was a huge event, and you took it all in your stride.

Biggest and loudest shoutout goes to our amazing full house audience. You were the final – and most vital – ingredient. Your energy, presence, and love made the night unforgettable!

Thanks to all of the above, and everyone behind the scenes for helping to make a night to remember.

A last word of appreciation yet again for the advice and support of consultants, friends and Sweet Patootee Arts team, volunteers, and board.
