As part of Newham Windrush Day 2025, we celebrate the Turning Point Sunday Best Sewing Skills participants and the work created in their workshops.
On display at the library will be examples of ‘Sunday Best’ garments that have been beautifully crafted by local residents led by Jennifer Laurent-Smart, founder of Sakafet London, accompanied by an exhibition of research discoveries made by participants and volunteers. They are the product of a three-week research and heritage skills project held at UCL Culture Lab where residents learnt to make garments in the style of those worn in the Caribbean and London in the 1920’s and 30’s.
This forms part of the TURNING POINT project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and in partnership with Sweet Patootee Arts, Sakafet London, UCL ‘Culture Lab’.
Where: Stratford Library, 3 The Grove, Stratford, E15 1EL
