About the workshops:
Jennifer Laurent-Smart is inviting 5 participants to join her for six Black Heritage Research and Sewing Skills workshops. These workshops will include:
- Co-creating items of historic clothing relevant to ordinary working class people of colour, and their communities in Britain and the Caribbean in the 1920s and 1930s.
- Researching clothes worn in 1920 and 1930s London and the Caribbean, the themes of Black pride, self-esteem, and importance of wearing your ‘Sunday best’.
If you have an interest in Black history and fashion, this workshop series is for you!
This creative heritage activity is inspired by our period drama TURNING POINT – and Jennifer’s extensive knowledge of Caribbean fashion and heritage.
What do you need?:
- To be 18 and older – elders welcome
- You must be available for ALL the sessions
- No previous experience or skill in sewing is needed to take part. The aim of the workshop is to have fun, boost wellbeing, and celebrate as well as share Caribbean fashion, history, and heritage.
